Annual Training

The WVU Department of Environmental Health and Safety has mandated that all WVU personnel (faculty, staff, graduate students, postdocs, etc.) who work in laboratories, prep rooms, or shops, supervise laboratories (either research or academic) and/or have responsibility for others who work in laboratories must complete the EHS RCRA Lab Safety training.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection inspectors imposed fines during recent inspections for failure of employees to attend/complete this training. As a result of the recent fines, chemical hygiene officers and department chairs in each of the Eberly College science departments have been tasked with maintaining up-to-date training records for their employees.

  1. If you have already completed the training in this calendar year, you should take the training again within 12 months to remain in compliance with West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection regulations.
  2. If you completed the training last year but have not yet completed the training this year, you should take the training within one year of the last successful completion of the training to remain in compliance with West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection regulations.
  3. If you have never taken this training, you must complete the online course immediately to ensure compliance with West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection regulations.

In-classroom training is conducted by EHS. Details about the online training can be found at ehs.wvu.edu/training/hazard-comm-hazardous-waste-lab-safety-training
